This collection of papers arises out of an international seminar organized by the Data for Development Association with the co-sponsorships of Unesco and the Internatiobal Federation for Information Processiong (IFIO). The seminar took place from 17-23 June 1979 om Chamrousse near Grenoble, France. Its aim was to discuss, under the general theme of "information system in public administration and their role in economic and social development" the organization of information and the management of data resources in government, with special attention to the needs of development planning. The seminar sessions were two sorts: plenary sessions of whic papers of a general nature were presented and discussed; and parallel working group sessions. The result of working group discussions were reported back and commented on in plenary session.
